A Staged Approach to Erosion Analysis of Wind Turbine Blade Coatings

چکیده
The current wind turbine leading-edge erosion research focuses on the end of incubation period and breakthrough when analysing mechanism. This work presented here shows benefits splitting describing progression into discrete stages. five identified stages are: (1) an undamaged, as-new, sample; (2) between undamaged sample incubation; (3) period; (4) breakthrough, (5) breakthrough. Mass loss, microscopy X-ray computed tomography were investigated at each From this analysis, it was observed that notable changes detected Stages 2 4, which are not usually considered separately. staged approach to rain testing offers a more thorough understanding how coating system ultimately fails due droplet impacts. It is during tomography, unobservable naked eye can be tracked using approach.

Rain erosion damage, caused by repeated droplet impact on wind turbine blades, is a major cause for concern, even more so at offshore locations with larger blades and higher tip speeds. Due to the negative economic influence of blade erosion, all wind turbine Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are actively seeking solutions. In most cases, since the surface coating plays a decisive role in...
